Alexa Forbes: Leaving local government but not the community

Alexa Forbes has announced today (February 13) that she wont stand again for the Otago Regional Council in this years local body elections but she's ready to help others who are considering becoming an elected councillor.

Alexa told Crux this morning that the "local government machine is broken with little hope of getting fixed" but that there was still room for optimism and a reason for new people to stand for election.

She made it clear she's available to help and believes that even in a broken system individuals can make a difference.

Admitting to being disappointed that its taken court action to (hopefully) get QLDC to fix our broken local sewage system she has clearly enjoyed her time at the ORC where she "better likes" the Chair/CEO dynamic than the more typical local government mayor/CEO system.

Crux will be publishing the full transcript of our interview with Alexa Forbes in tomorrow's Friday Edition for Crux subscribers.
