Cromwell counting down to Light Up Winter
Anticipation is building for this year’s Aotea Electric Daikin NZ Light Up Winter being held on Saturday, August 3 in Cromwell. Get ready to escape into a whimsical winter woodland in the Anderson Park Rose Garden where illuminating fairies cast their magical glow.
Savour the flavour of the festive Street Food Alley, where tantalising aromas and mouth-watering tastes create a feast for the senses. Dine around the radiant fountain cascade, or pack a picnic blanket and chairs for the ultimate winter’s twilight joviality.
Towering stilt walkers will stride gracefully through the garden, captivating everyone with their height and elegance, whilst flame dancers will mesmerise with their fiery displays. Be entertained by the roving magical clown guaranteed to delight visitors across all ages. Sparkle up with face-painting, and for the little ones seeking a little traversing action, hop on board Thomas The Tank Engine on the greenway express lane.
Adding to the vibrancy of this year’s event, the charming Fine Thyme Belles kick start the on-stage performances, followed by local youth acts 45 South, Mistep and ReSounding, to get you moving and grooving.
Events co-ordinator Anthea Lawrence says, “We are so excited to bring the sounds of our local youth to this year’s event".
"There is such fantastic talent here in Cromwell, so come along, and show your support."
For those in need of an escape from the winter chill, head to the Crystal Pavilion with local mulled wine or warming hot chocolate in hand, the perfect way to soak up the stage-side festive vibe.
The ever-popular 'Light Up Your Hat' competition will once again bring creativity to life with dazzling glowing headpieces, with entrants across four age categories competing for fabulous prizes.
The highlight of Aotea Daikin Light Up Winter is the breath-taking mass-lantern release, scheduled as the grand finale at 7.30pm. Prepare to be awe-struck, as the night sky is transformed into a magical canvas of illuminated beauty.
Committed to safety and environmental responsibility, Cromwell Promotions ensures that the lanterns provided are flame retardant, completely biodegradable, and free from any wire that could harm wildlife.
