Rave at The Cave to celebrate new youth centre

Feb 07, 2023

A new venue for young people to hang out in Lake Hāwea is almost ready for visitors.

The Cave is the brand new youth space being run by Kahu Youth, and it's located in the basement of the Lake Hāwea Community Centre on Myra Street.

To celebrate the opening Kahu Youth is inviting members of the community to come check out the new space this Friday, February 10, from 3.30pm to 5.30pm. There will be plenty of entertainment, a DJ, a free BBQ and lots of fun activities for locals.

The Cave is an extension of Kahu Youth’s services - quality youth development programmes in safe environments for youth to grow, learn and have fun. The centre is open for young people aged 11-plus to drop in on Thursdays from 3.30pm to 6pm starting Thursday, February 16.

The drop in centre offers a multitude of activities including arts and crafts, foosball, video and board games, sports, and more. It is fully supervised by Youth Development Workers, who are available to the young people using the centre if they need a bit of extra support.

Anna Sutherland, the Kahu Youth Trust's operations director, says "We'd like to say a huge thanks to the many sponsors and supporters who have made this dream happen - Lake Hawea Community Centre, CLT, OCT, Mitre10 Wānaka, Foodstuffs, Contact Energy and Te Whatu Ora Southern."
