The Last Affordable Place

Lakeview enjoys a special place in Queenstown - it has history, it is affordable and it is a unique community. But now an axe hangs over Lakeview with a new development of luxury hotels, housing and retail operations scheduled to start soon.

Tomorrow many of the residents get their final marching orders and some were even forced to give up their cabins, worth up to $90,000, to the Queenstown Lakes District Council for nothing - back in 2015.

Here's a portrait of the people of Lakeview along with the council's explanation of why the change was, in their view, necessary.
