A Labour of Truth

Wanaka women have been fighting for years for improved maternity care. They argue that their lives, and the lives of their babies, are put at serious risk due to the Russian Roulette decision of whether to stay in Wanaka to give birth - or drive to Dunedin.

This mini-documentary, produced by Storyworks as part of the Crux Living in La La Land series, is a moving and dramatic portrait of the human cost involved in that potentially life or death gamble.

Our follow up video will feature a full response from the Southern District Health Board. The SDHB was asked to be part of this initial production but were not available before our production deadline.
