Kate Moetaua fund tops Charity Day project
- Mar 16,2019
The endowment fund set up in memory of local teacher Kate Moetaua has topped The Hills/Crux Charity Day vote.
Kate died tragically from cancer in November 2018. The endowment fund has been set up to support the youth of the Southern Lakes in the fields of sports, arts and culture. The fund will now benefit from the annual Charity Day to be held at The Hills golf course on April 6th.
The formal result of the poll that involved 12 local charities gave Kate's fund 25.5% of the vote, followed by 17% for the Queenstown Cancer Society, 14.75% for the Wakatipu Youth Trust and 10.15% for Baskets of Blessing.
The vote closed at midnight on Friday March 15 after 3,329 people living in the Queenstown area voted for their preferred cause. The 13th entry, the Play It Strange Trust, has been disqualified as it is not a locally based charity. This entry only attracted one vote so their involvement has not affected the overall outcome.
Crux will email the full results to each of the entrants later today after all of the votes have been double checked for validity. The outcome will be formally announced at The Hills on the afternoon Monday March 18th. This event will be covered by Crux.
Thank you to everyone who entered and voted. These are all great causes and deserve our support 365 days every year. Crux will leave the entries on the Charity Day page for everyone to access.
We'll be covering the Charity Day in detail on April 6th as well as all developments both before and after that date.
